Sacramento County's Kiefer Landfill accepts several categories free of charge from residents: clean inerts (concrete, brick, rock, tile, stucco), clean metals, one to two appliances per day, mattresses on non-business loads, e-waste, and up to four passenger tires. A pickup truck through the gate is $35, and mixed municipal waste is $61.35 per ton as of January 1, 2026 against a $45.00 minimum. If your load is only those materials and you have a way to move it, self-hauling is genuinely cheaper.
City of Folsom single-family customers get three free Bulky Waste Pickups a year, up to five cubic yards each. Citrus Heights residents get three free Neighborhood Cleanups a year, up to 10 cubic yards, though the date is set by neighborhood area rather than booked on demand. If your load fits one of those and you can wait for it, use it — we will tell you so on the phone.
Mattress recycling across California is funded by a $10.50 fee collected at point of sale, which makes drop-off free at over 240 permanent locations statewide.
